What does loving yourself mean exactly? According to google, it means to have self-respect, a positive self-image and unconditional self-acceptance. Now lets focus on all of those things.
Okay, so self-respect. This is defined as holding yourself in esteem and believing that you are good and worthy of being treated well. In society today, people seem to have lost respect for themselves because all we as teenagers(especially) want to do is "fit in" and "impress" and "be attractive" so revealing pictures are posted in result of people going out of their way to get likes and comments on Instagram and to have people slide into their DMs. Guys, that is not attractive. We need to start realizing that our bodies are so sacred and beautiful, you only get one body so why go and reveal it to the whole world? Yes it will get you loads of likes (that's not even guaranteed) and maybe you'll be hit on, but that will only last for a few days, maybe a week but then what happens after that? What are you going to accomplish and how will it benefit you positively in the future? News flash- it won't. You need to realize that no matter what you do or how you look, having respect for yourself is way more attractive than anything else. You are amazing
Moving on to a positive self-image. Okay so I'm going to start off by telling/reminding you that you are made in the image of God and wow... What a beautiful image that is. Unfortunately we live in a world full of standards such as girls having to be slim to be seen as beautiful or guys having to have six-packs to be seen as attractive and if you don't have that then you're an outcast or you're ugly. This honestly disgusts me. And the saddest part is that we try and live up to these standards. Guys we are all so unique and different, so why are we trying to look the same when we know that it's impossible? What are we trying to prove?
We need to start looking at ourselves and noticing that it's the uniqueness in us that brings out our individual beauty and we need to embrace that. Everyone was made differently and beautifully by God. You are beautiful/attractive no matter what anyone else has to say.
And finally we look at self-acceptance. Okay so lets be real, we all have our flaws and we all have these things called "insecurities" and unfortunately they may be things that we cannot change but what we have to realize is that that's really okay. We aren't perfect guys and we never will be, but we weren't made to be perfect otherwise we would've been robots so why the heck are we trying so hard to be perfect or to be seen as perfect? Once again, what are we trying to accomplish? Accepting yourself with your imperfections is a very difficult thing, I know and I get it, I have my insecurities too but have you ever thought of what is perfect? You may have bad eyebrows but maybe you have the most amazing eyes (bad example I know, but keep reading), why focus on what you can't change when you have something that you can embrace and be proud of. Just think about it.

Depression
Alright so I don't know about you guys... but last week defeated me. Straight up. Like it was genuinely a week where if something was going right, something was definitely bound to go wrong and I was at a point of simply just wishing that everything would just pause and wishing that life would just give me a chance to breathe but... that didn't happen. So I found myself falling into what we call depression.
Now depression is something that unfortunately most of us have either experienced or watched someone else experience. If you don't know what depression is, it's basically(as google defines it) "Feelings of severe despondency and dejection", also known as a miserable time in ones life. I have, however, seen how a lot of people seem to see depression as a component of "attention-seeking". Guys, when someone tells you that they've got depression, it's not something to take lightly. It's lonely and painful and it requires help.
So many teenagers, especially the youngsters, are going through depression and very few people seem to care. The response is either, "Agg they'll get over it" or "they're just over-reacting", but one thing I have learned is that when someone feels upset and lonely and in pain, they feel that way for a reason so no one has the right to tell them anything that I've mentioned above because no one knows what anyone is going through behind closed doors. No one has the right to judge a person according to how they feel as Sharon Creech said," Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins".
But getting more personal now, if you're reading this and you are currently going through depression, please know that you're not alone. I know you're probably saying, "Nicole you don't understand" trust me I've heard that line many times before and it may be true, but somewhere out there, there is someone that does understand what you're going through and more importantly there are people out there that are going through exactly the same thing as what you are, I'm not saying it's a good thing but the point is that you are not alone. Always remember that.
One more thing that I want to touch on is lying to yourself. Yes you are very strong and you can handle a lot more than what you think you can, but sometimes things become too much to handle and that's okay, but what you need to stop telling yourself is that you're fine if you know for sure that you're not. I know it's difficult to trust people because backstabbers and liars do exist but everyone has that one person that they trust with everything so sometimes you need to put your pride aside and ask for help. It's very difficult in the beginning I know, I was once there too, but I promise you, talking to that one person makes a huge difference and it helps. If you wish to be happy, sometimes it takes work to fulfill your wishes, but at the end of the day, you're going to be okay. Don't give up.

Positivity in our daily lives
Okay sooo we all have those days when absolutely nothing is going right and all you want to do is just bury yourself in a hole until it's all over and it's finally safe to come out... Unfortunately life simply does not work that way, we aren't able to run away from our problems and even if we try to, life always finds a way to catch up with us.
Obviously when this type of thing happens, most of us become really negative and we can't seem to find anything positive about our lives. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we need to change. When you have a negative mindset, everything is going to seem impossible and you're just not going to see any point of picking yourself up and carrying on, so the trick is to take a break and just think of something positive. It can be the simplest thing such as having a bed to sleep in, having a plate of food in front of you every day or having clothes to wear, because once you start thinking of the positive things in your life, you start to become more thankful and that is when your mindset begins to change.
Let's be real, none of the pain that any of us have gone through, has lasted forever. So if you've made it this far, why not carry on? We tend to give up too quickly because either we don't believe in ourselves or we don't think we're worthy enough to reach our goals and make our dreams come true, but this only happens because of a negative mindset. Nothing bad lasts forever as Ada Adams said (and here the cliché part comes) "there is always a light at the end of the tunnel". Now I know a lot of you will read that and be like,"Ugh yeah whatever Nicole" but please just think about everything you've gone through and then realize that you are still standing. You made it.
So as you go through this week and you hit a bad day, the first thought in your mind may be "No I can't do this, it's too much" but try and remember everything I've said. The day will not last forever I promise and you will definitely get through it. I'm finishing this off with one more cliché quote... As Friedrich Nietzsche said,"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger". Think about it.
